Demetrios Karykes, a scholar and official in the Empire of Nicaea, was one of the most important figures in the 1220s and 1230s. As hypatos ton philosophon he was responsible for higher education. He served as a megas logariastes and krites supervising the determination and inspection of taxes in the district of Ephesus. In 1234 he participated in the meeting with the papal delegation at Nymphaion. |
