King of Palmyra in Syria. He contributed to the rebuttal of the Persian invasion into Asia Minor after the arrest of Valerian (260 AD). He defeated and possibly killed the usurper Quietus and his supporter Ballista in 261 AD. He was killed in Emesa of Syria or in Cappadocia in 267 AD.

Oenoanda, the city of Lycia, in the mountainous region of Cabalitis, was identified with a site near the modern village of Incealiler, 32 km to the W-NW of Elmali. In the 2nd century BC the city belonged to the kingdom of Pergamon and then it became a member of the Tetrapolis under Cibyra. In the 1st century BC it was incorporated into the Koinon of Lycia following all the rest of its member cities. Born in Ayvalik in 1735. He was a priest while he was also awarded the office of oikonomos. His activities led to the ascription of privileges by the Ottomans to the inhabitants of Ayvalik in 1773. For a number of years he also administered the community’s affairs. He died under mysterious circumstances in 1791.

The systematic oil production was the most significant resource in the area of Ayvalik. The olive groves covered a great part of the exploitable land. From the end of the 19th century the introduction of technology and recovery methods of olive-oil production made the increase of the product’s quality and size possible, the greatest part of which was intended for export.
