This category includes the buildings that represent the Hellenic civilization as it was developed in specific areas and continues to develop in different parts of the world. The works are examined in diachrony, starting from prehistory and reaching the modern times.
The works are directly or indirectly connected with the presence and the activity of Hellenism.
An architectural work is considered to be directly related when the its facilitates activities of the Hellenic element constantly or for a specific period of time.
A work is considered to be indirectly related when there are elements and/ or evidence for the presence of Hellenism or a relation with Hellenism constantly or for a specific year or period of time or when the architect/ city planner/ constructor/ sponsor or owner are part of Hellenism, as the term is defined by historical research.
The time frame in which we seek the objects of our study reaches the modern times, as the totality of the important Hellenic constructions and monuments is an issue demanding constant research, study and protection.
The basic information unit is the construction unit that presents building, structural and morphological consistency.
The thematic division of the buildings in categories is based on a combination of the following criteria:
- The object’s functional independence - The object’s topological relationship to its environment, i.e. whether or not the object contains an environment, whether or not it is contained or disseminated in the environment, either natural or structured - Exploitation and utilization of the natural environment.
According to these criteria, buildings are divided in the following categories:
- Isolated construction - Construction compounds - Small cities - Networks - Special constructions and infrastructures. |
